JOB TITLE:                                   Software Development Manager
LOCATION:                                 Wiltshire
SALARY:                                       £65,000 - £75,000

THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER OPPORTUNITY:
  • Leading and managing teams of software developers. This includes hiring, training, and motivating team members, as well as assigning tasks and ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Defining and communicating project goals and objectives. This involves working with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, and then translating those requirements into technical specifications.
  • Overseeing the software development process. This includes ensuring that the project is on track, that quality standards are met, and that any problems or issues are identified and resolved quickly.
  • Communicating with stakeholders. This involves keeping stakeholders informed of the project's progress, as well as addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Providing technical leadership. This includes staying up to date on the latest technologies and trends and using that knowledge to help the team develop innovative and effective solutions.
  • Ensure Engineering policies are implemented and adhered to. Ensure all team activities are aligned to the Engineering strategy and vision.

YOUR KEY SKILLS:
  • Established experience of leading up to 2 technology teams of 4-8 people.
  • Managing the delivery of software development initiatives. Software development background.
Knowledge:
  • Understanding of different system architectures their pros and cons and the challenges as well as advantages they present.
  • Familiar with the latest trends in the software development industry with the ability to use these to improve the team’s productivity and efficiency.
  • Comfortable with cloud technologies with experience of at least one of the major providers.
  • Good understanding of DevOps Familiar with observability, alerting and monitoring and site reliability engineering.

Skills and Competencies:
  • A strong understanding of software development principles and practices. This includes knowledge of programming languages, software development methodologies, and testing and debugging techniques.
  • Able to lead and motivate a team of software developers. This includes setting clear goals and expectations, providing guidance and support, and resolving conflicts.
  • Can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. This includes writing clear and concise documentation, presenting complex technical information in a way that is easy to understand, and listening to and understanding the needs of stakeholders.
  • Able to identify and solve problems that arise during the software development process. This includes being able to think critically and creatively, as well as being able to work under pressure.
  • Adaptable to change, open to new ideas and willing to facilitate change.
  • Stakeholder management.
